Ideas

  • Wikis can be used for project management
  • Facebook has a project management application My!TeamPlanner that can be added (includes To Do List, Shared Documents, Highlight Dates, Scheduling, Team Discussion Board). It's described as: my!TeamPlanner gives you the tools you need to organize, coordinate and collaborate on any activity, and one place to go for all your team’s information. It may prove to be a good choice since such a high percentage of students are already using Facebook, so you won't be asking them to go to another platform.
  • Google Calendar for keeping track of people's schedules, major events, etc.
  • Google Docs could also be used by teams to organize documents, etc.
  • The web company 37signals has a number of great-mostly free-project management tools. We (JSC) have used basecamp and backpack. The sites are very user-friendly and intuitive (even for those who are less tech-savvy). We've had good luck with them, only that it's one more page to go to. Usually only charge you for file hosting space if you need it.
  • For campuses, if you have blackboard you can create an organization for a work-group or office for program management; menus are less intuitive and work cannot be shared with people outside your college.
