Ideas

  • Set up Facebook Group for announcing network activities to members
  • Set up a wiki to share documents
  • Set up a Google Calendar to share schedules of events

Examples

  • Platforms
  • BonnerNetwork.pbwiki.com has been set up to share best practices, tools, links to campus web pages (i.e., Facebook groups, campus wikis, etc)
    • Many schools are doing similar types of activity but currently do not have a platform for best sharing that information.  For example, more than 25 schools have conducted trips to the Gulf in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and some have developed innovative strategies for education (using Spike Lee's movie), reflection (live blogging), and enhancing impact.  But these strategies need to be shared.
  • Similar to the pledge idea above, I think it would be interesting to spur the campuses to compare their activities with each other, and, dare I say, compete.  Recyclemania got a lot of play on the campus where I work, and I even received an e-mail about it as an alum from a different college.  There the campuses compete to divert the most trash from the landfill in various categories.  I don't want to commodify service but there could be challenges in refelctive events.  Who organized the biggest hunger banquet? Who got the most students to attend a lecture on local homelessnes
  • We could have a monthly contest for students or campuses to generate videos on different aspects of their programs to be shared on our collaborative wiki, Facebook Group, etc.  Potential topics could include many of the topics mentioned in the video portion of the first section above.
